Feeding Therapy
SOS Feeding Therapy, also known as the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding, is a structured program designed to help children overcome feeding challenges and develop a more positive relationship with food. It addresses a range of issues, including picky eating, sensory processing disorders, and oral motor delays, by integrating sensory, oral motor, behavioral, and nutritional strategies. The core of the SOS approach lies in making mealtimes a comfortable and enjoyable experience, encouraging children to explore and accept a wider variety of foods.
Who it helps:
-
Picky Eaters: Children with limited diets who refuse certain foods or textures.
-
Children with Sensory Processing Disorders: Those who are overly sensitive to the sensory properties of food (texture, smell, taste, etc.).
-
Children with Oral Motor Difficulties: Those who struggle with chewing or swallowing.
-
Children with Autism: Food aversions and difficulties with transitions are common in children with autism, and SOS can be helpful.
-
Children with Anxiety Around Mealtime: SOS can help reduce anxiety and improve mealtime experiences.
